Bike to work week saves 190 gallons of gas

The 2014 Bike to Work week results are in, showing 133 people representing 45 local employers participated in the second annual event.

The participants cycled 3,803 miles, with the average participant traveling 29 miles.

An estimated 190 gallons of gas were saved, totaling $2,225 in commuting costs and an estimated 190,150 calories burned.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington had the most participants, at 26 cyclists. Wrightsville Beach School teachers also participated in the festivities.

The 2015 goal is to reach 4,250 miles traveled.
