When the area’s schoolchildren end the academic year on Friday, June 13 some may go hungry. Nourish NC, a local 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization hopes to fill the gap with 100 volunteers to help pack 400 summer meal boxes at 5:30 p.m., June 6at Nourish NC’s Warehouse, 1510 S. Third St., Wilmington.
Not every child looks forward to summer break because of the risk of food insecurity. County social workers report that many children in the free and reduced breakfast and lunch program do not have regular access to food when they are not at school.
Concerned community members may volunteer June 6 or a $100 donation will feed one child for the entire break.
