New Hanover Regional Medical Center will receive the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, said a Sept. 15 press release from NHRMC.

The Gold Plus Award is the highest award given by the American Heart Association, and recognizes hospitals and Emergency Medical Systems that transport heart attack patients from the first medical contact to the intervention site in 90 minutes or less.

“The average time for a patient at NHRMC’s Heart Center to go from first contact with an EMS team anywhere in the region to intervention in our Catheterization Lab is 70 minutes,” said the press release.

NHRMC’s Emergency Medical Services AirLink VitaLink Critical Care Transport will also receive the Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver Recognition Award, the highest possible award for transport agencies. The AirLink VitaLink Critical Care Transport program is one of two flight programs in the United States to receive the award.

The American Heart Association will present NHRMC and its regional partners with the award during the annual Cardiovascular Symposium on Sept. 18 at the Wilmington Convention Center.
