Sheriff’s Clean Sweep lands 35 in custody

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with local, state and federal agencies conducted operation Clean Sweep on Wednesday, Sept. 3. The sheriff’s office concluded its 10 month investigation into various drug related offenders in which 50 offenders were identified as wanted individuals. Clean Sweep was coordinated in partnership with the Wilmington Police Department, Pender and Brunswick County Sheriff’s Offices, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Federal Marshalls, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Early Wednesday, Sept. 3, multiple strike teams executed warrants across the entire county. Thirty-five individuals have been arrested including 12 federal indictments for known gang members.
