Local restaurants donate to annual WB Public Works Appreciation Luncheon

Must read

Nancy Faye Craig held the annual luncheon for the Town of Wrightsville Beach public works employees Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Fran Russ Recreation Center. To make the lunch possible, Craig reached out to local restaurants and grocery stores and received a generous response.

Pizzas were donated by Vito’s Pizza, Mellow Mushroom, the Blockade Runner Beach Resort and Bessie And Giuseppe. The Holiday Inn Resort provided salad, David’s Deli provided dressings and tea, the Landfall Food Lion donated cake, Scotchman #129 donated sodas, and the Lumina Commons Harris Teeter provided plates.

Craig said she was inspired to hold the luncheon after seeing the effort public works put in to clean up the beach following Hurricane Fran.

“Our mayor after Hurricane Fran said anytime we see all these folks out and about, thank them for all they do for us,” Craig said. “And I got to thinking, there are enough businesses on the beach that I could ask them to donate and have this lunch, and we’ve been doing it for 18 years. [The public works employees] are so friendly. They’ll do anything for any of us that live here, or are just passing through. So it’s a fun thing to do, and they enjoy it.”
