911 call reveals details of McFadyen assault charge

Must read

A Nov. 15 call to 911 describes the incident that landed New Hanover County Elections Director Marvin McFadyen in jail this weekend.

The victim called 911 at 10:06 p.m. to report a domestic disturbance at a residence she shares with McFadyen. She told the 911 responder McFadyen threw her against the wall when she asked him to leave her bedroom. She said she came down between the wall and the door frame, when McFadyen tried to shut the door on her foot. The victim told the 911 responder both she and McFayden consumed alcohol prior to the incident.

When asked if McFadyen had a history of violence, she replied, “No, not at all. Not that I knew of.” At one point in the audio, when the victim and McFadyen were together in the same room waiting for the police to arrive, she asked McFadyen to stop comforting her.

“I just want him gone,” she said to the 911 responder. The victim declined medical treatment.

McFadyen was transported to the New Hanover County jail and booked for assault on a female around 11:15 p.m. He was released on a $1,500 unsecured bond following his first appearance before District Judge James Faison Nov. 17. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 16.

Following a Board of Elections emergency meeting today, board member Tannis Nelson confirmed that McFadyen is still employed by the county as elections director. The board will meet again to discuss personnel matters and other election issues Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.
