Wilmington residents appointed to battleship commission

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory announced appointments to the USS North Carolina  Battleship Commission Thursday, Nov. 6. Retired Navy captain and military historian Wilbur D. Jones Jr. was appointed chairman of the commission. Fifth district judge Sandra Ray, who serves New Hanover and Pender counties, was appointed commissioner. Both are Wilmington residents.

The battleship commission adopts rules and regulations for proper maintenance and operation of the ship as a permanent memorial and exhibit. Members work with the Department of Cultural Resources to manage and maintain exhibits, activities and records pertaining to marine and naval history of North Carolina and the United States. Each commission member serves a four-year term.
