The New Hanover County delinquent tax lien notices publish this week.
Altogether, the 4,212 parcels have more than $4 million in unpaid taxes owed to the county.
The two highest delinquent accounts are: WILMINGTON RALEIGH LLC, owing $73,644.82 in unpaid taxes, for parcel id: R06500-007-037-000. Second highest was JOYNER MARINA LLC, owing $51,474.51 for parcel id: R08519-002-002-000.
Not quite 100 property owners owe less than $5.
Taxes are due Sept. 1 every year. They become delinquent Jan. 5. People receive two delinquent notices by mail. Publishing the list every year is required by North Carolina general statutes.
“It is an effective tool. Seeing their names in the paper, grabs their attention. It will bring a lot of people in to pay their bill,” assistant tax administrator Allison Snell said.
