Hoggard High School senior Aisling Henihan has been awarded the Morehead-Cain Scholarship by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is one of 59 recipients of the prestigious scholarship, which covers all expenses for four years and includes an intensive summer enrichment program.

Aisling, daughter of Robert and Alison Henihan of Wilmington, will graduate from Hoggard in June. She is a member of the student council and Beta Club, and is a dancer who has performed in summer programs with the Carolina Ballet and the American Ballet Theater.

She may pursue a career in public policy or law.

In addition to strong academics, the Morehead-Cain Scholarships are awarded on the basis of community service and involvement in school and extracurricular activities. This year 35 recipients are from North Carolina. Of the remaining 25, 18 are from other U.S. states, and seven are from foreign countries.

The scholarship, including the summer activities, is worth more than $115,000 over the course of four years.
