Group aims to start new Christmas tree tradition

Local non-profit Wilmington City Progress, Inc. has formed a committee to raise funds and organize the removal of the Christmas tree at Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. The tree would then be replaced with a new tree to be planted at Legion Stadium.

The committee is headed by City Council Member Charlie Rivenbark and developer Gene Merritt. Those interested in assisting with the project should call 910-222-8038 or email
