Must read

The Lumina News won first place from the North Carolina Press Association for its online breaking news coverage in March 2015 of a car crash following a police chase of bank robbery suspects. Reporter Emmy Errante shared the award for “Police chase involving bank robbers ends in five-car crash,” where staff regularly updated the site with new details as they became available.

Lumina News, which competes in the press association’s Division A, took other awards for its coverage in 2015. The paper took second place for “Teacher takes Pine Valley students global” and staff writer Terry Lane took third place for “Boy Scout bikers complete cross-country journey” in the news feature writing category. Cissy Russell was awarded second place in the appearance and design category while Allison Potter took third place in feature photography for “Beyond sight,” where she helped illustrate the story of a blind surfer offering an inspirational message at Wrightsville Beach.

Wrightsville Beach Magazine, Lumina News’s sister publication, took first place in the best niche publication category.
