Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue raises money for nationals

Must read

Tonight, Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue is holding a barbecue fundraiser to help pay for equipment and its upcoming trip to the USLA National Lifeguard Championships in Hermosa Beach, California.

The fundraiser starts at 6 p.m. in Wrightsville Beach Park, right before the WECT Sounds of Summer concert at 6:30. Barbecue plates are eight dollars and include barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans and a roll.

Plates will be sold by participants in this week’s Ocean Rescue Junior Lifeguard program, a weeklong camp teaching children ocean safety skills. In addition to selling barbecue, the junior guards will be sharing with the public what they’ve learned this week.

WBOR’s competition squad earned its trip to nationals, held this year Aug. 11–13, by winning regionals two weeks ago. The past two years, WBOR has placed third in nationals.
