PHOTOS: Winds bring out weather watchers as Matthew rolls rain into Wrightsville Beach

Must read

Wrightsville Beach police cleared dozens off of Crystal Pier on Saturday as the approach of Hurricane Matthew brought out curiosity seekers who bypassed the caution tape. But town officials said there had been no serious incidents from the storm so far.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the area until 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The high tide of 1:10 p.m. pushed the waves to the dune line in many spots on the beach strand.  Water along Banks Channel and the Intracoastal Waterways reached the bottoms of many docks, as the docks at Wynn Plaza were floating higher than the walkways connecting them.

And there was some standing water near the intersection of North Lumina Avenue and Columbia Street, though several local bars and restaurants in the area remained open.
