2018 Pelican Awards & Taste of the Coast

Must read

MOREHEAD CITY – Join the North Carolina Coastal Federation for a night of summer fun, local food and music and stories of coastal stewardship. The North Carolina Coastal Federation will be honoring those who have dedicated their time and attention to bettering the coast at the 2018 Pelican Awards & Taste of the Coast on Saturday, July 28, at the Crystal Coast Civic Center.
This is the 15th year the federation has selected Pelican Award recipients. The awards pro-gram was initiated in 2003 to recognize people and organizations that have shown exemplary coastal stewardship.
“In the 15 years since we’ve started the Pelican Awards, we’ve recognized more than 100 people, organizations and local governments that have made a real difference in protecting our coast and promoting coastal stewardship,” said Todd Miller, executive director of the federation. “These people and their accomplishments have helped keep our coast healthy and have worked to ensure that our coast’s protection remains a priority.”
The awards program will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will recognize those who have made inspiring contributions to protecting the coast. Following the award ceremony, guests will get to enjoy local seafood and a silent auction during Taste of the Coast.
Taste of the Coast will feature local seafood from restaurants such as the Beaufort Grocery Co. and North Carolina grown oysters. At least 11 oyster growers from up and down the North Carolina coast will offer their own unique product. Because the growers are coming from all over the state, participants will get to experience a wide variety of tastes in the oysters. More information about the growers and their oysters is available at nccoast.org/celebrate.
In addition to food and drinks, there will be live music provided by the local band 4EverAll and a silent auction throughout the evening. Some of the items included in this year’s auction are an Ocracoke getaway and a sun-set cruise. Those who cannot attend the event are still able to bid online at 32auctions.com/pelican2018, although bidding will continue after the online portion closes
Tickets are $50 for federation members and $60 for non-members. They can be purchased online at nccoast.org/celebrate, or by calling 252-393-8185.
