Emergency professionals and law enforcement will take advantage of the lone University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) campus during students’ spring break when the UNCW campus police to the SBI emergency personnel simulate a full-scale emergency exercise on university property from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 9.
The exercise will occur mostly around Wagoner and Galloway halls and will include role-play response to possible emergency scenarios involving the university’s siren, emergency response vehicles, helicopters and simulated gunfire.
Kevin Madsen, UNCW emergency management coordinator, said the exercise will help all possible responders from the university, city, county and state levels learn how best to respond to UNCW incidents from hurricane relief to school shootings.
Students have been notified via e-mail and various other sources of the event.
The exercise will limit public access to campus.
