On Thursday, Aug. 21, the N.C. Division of Environmental Health lifted a water quality advisory for Banks Channel after testing revealed bacteria levels had dropped below the state and federal standards.
 
 
 
Business is off so far this year at popular tourist accommodations like the Blockade Runner Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center in Wrightsville Beach.
New Hanover County currently collects a 6-percent room occupancy tax (ROT).
