Flotilla board sails toward 2014 festival

Must read

The North Carolina Holiday Flotilla is still looking for a business or organization to sponsor the grand prize for the 2014 boat parade.

Vice chairman Ryan Rhodenhiser made the announcement on behalf of chairman Pres Davenport during the board’s Monday, April 28 meeting. However, Rhodenhiser said Davenport has not heard a definite no from any of the remaining potential sponsors.

“No one has said no, but no one has said yes either,” Rhodenhiser said.

Board member Shannon Freidich delivered a sponsorship check from El Cerro Grande in the amount of $250 and Kim Goad said the festival in the park has two registered vendors. The annual flotilla car show may add more awards this year. Board member Linda Brown said the car show organizers would like to add awards for the top 20 cars, because the number of cars at the show has grown steadily each year. Brown said the car show made money for the flotilla in 2013 and the additional awards would not come with any additional costs to the flotilla.

As for the band that will perform at the kickoff party the night before the boat parade, board member Sami Winter said she was trying to rebook Craig Wollard, who has rejoined with The Embers to form The Embers featuring Craig Wollard. Winter said she would have a better idea of the band’s fee during next month’s meeting.
