Wilmington Whole Foods announces Feast Down East as grant recipient

Must read

Feast Down East will benefit on August 19, 2015, during Wilmington Whole Foods Market’s quarterly community day. Five percent of the day’s net sales will be donated to Feast Down East.

Ron Bold, Wilmington Whole Foods team leader, explained in a Nov. 6 press release that grants are awarded by the Whole Cities Foundation, Whole Foods’ third nonprofit foundation, which aims to create health education partnerships and improve access to nutritious foods in each store’s community.

“Individual stores typically choose a recipient based on the local communities they serve, but this quarter we decided to band all of our stores together to make a larger donation to Whole Cities Foundation,” Bold stated. “All proceeds raised from this 5 Percent Day will be awarded through Whole Cities Foundation grants to nonprofit community organizations in the South that support nutrition education and healthy food access.”

Feast Down East, also known as the Southeastern N.C. Food Systems Program, is a nonprofit organization founded in 2006 to help connect small-scale, limited-resource farmers with local markets. The organization serves both individual consumer and wholesale markets. For more information, visit www.feastdowneast.org
