Applications are now available for the Susan G. KomenĀ® North Carolina Triangle to the Coast (NCTC) Passing the Promise grant. The grant is awarded to nonprofit community organizations within Komen’s 29-county service area to help bring survivors and co-survivors to the Komen Wilmington Race for the CureĀ®, regardless of ability to pay registration fees and travel expenses.

The grant’s application deadline is Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 5 p.m. Interested parties can visit Komen’s NCTC website to fill out an application.

Pam Kohl, executive director of the Komen NCTC affiliate, said in a Jan. 9 press release that every year, the Komen Wilmington Race for the Cure continues to create an atmosphere of inspiration and hope for the lives of everyone touched by breast cancer.

ā€œThe more people that can be introduced to this experience and connect with others, the more effective it is,ā€ Kohl stated.

The Passing the Promise grant was developed in memory ofĀ  Komen Triangle Race for the CureĀ® Founder Jeanne Peck and her vision to make the race an event that embraces all survivors and co-survivors.

Questions about the grant application may be directed to Julie McQueen at [email protected]

The Komen Wilmington Race for the CureĀ® begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, in downtown Wilmington at Second and Market streets. Interested participants can register for the race atĀ  http://tinyurl.com/KomenWilm
