Pervious concrete installed

The N.C. Coastal Federation installs pervious concrete in the parking lot at Wrightsville Beach Park May 6 using funds left over from a National Estuarine Research Reserve grant. The new concrete is being installed in a 40-foot by 40-foot square around each of the two storm drains. Town manager Tim Owens said the area needed to be resurfaced anyway because it was cracked, causing stormwater to pool. Now, he said, the majority of the stormwater should absorb through the concrete and not even reach the storm drains, helping reduce runoff into Kenan’s Creek. ~ Allison Potter
