Taste of WB raises thousands for charities

Must read

The Oct. 10 Taste of Wrightsville Beach event raised $4,350 for a program to feed the hungry, $6,525 for Cape Fear Community College’s culinary club and $10,875 for future town beautification projects.

Event organizer Linda Brown presented the checks Oct. 21 to Chris Nesselroade from the Weekend Meals on Wheels program and Jaime Chadwick and Dave Conklin from CFCC’s Pineapple Guild.

Part of the Pineapple Guild’s funds will help students attend the National Restaurant Association Expo in Chicago, a major trade show for hospitality industry. The Weekend Meals on Wheels, which, unlike the weekday Meals on Wheels program is not funded by the county, will use its share to feed those in need in the community.

The remaining $10,875 goes to the Wrightsville Beach Foundation, which funds beautification and recreation projects around town. Brown said part of the money will go towards putting up the annual Christmas lights display. The foundation is also discussing projects for Wrightsville Beach Park like filtered water refilling stations around the John Nesbitt Loop.
