Low pressure system creates potential for rain, rough surf Memorial Day weekend

An area of low pressure northeast of the Bahamas could develop into a tropical or sub-tropical system and drift towards southern North Carolina and northern South Carolina, increasing the chances for rain and flooding Memorial Day weekend.

The system has a high chance of developing into a subtropical or tropical system within the next five days, according to an 11:15 a.m. update by the National Weather Service.

The primary impact expected at this time is from rainfall and flooding, the update states, and the potential for rip currents and rough surf will also likely increase.
