Tropical Storm Bonnie forms off coast

While thousands of beachgoers crowded Wrightsville’s beach strand under sunny skies Saturday, Tropical Storm Bonnie formed off the coast of South Carolina with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

The National Weather Service forecasts the storm’s center to reach the South Carolina coast on Sunday, according to a 5 p.m. update, and reach southern North Carolina Tuesday.

The expected impacts to the North and South Carolina coasts are minor storm surge and beach erosion, an elevated risk of rip currents and between one and three inches of rain.
