Former Wrightsville Beach police officer Bill Curry dies, funeral set for Monday

A former Wrightsville Beach police officer died Friday and will be remembered at a memorial service today, Sunday, at 6 p.m.

Ernest “Bill” Madison Curry, Jr., 61, died at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. In addition to being an officer with the Wrightsville Beach Police Department, Curry’s 35-year law enforcement career also includes service in the Carolina Beach Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department.

Curry was described by family as a fun-loving, generous and kindhearted person who enjoyed cooking for civic and law enforcement organizations throughout New Hanover County. He was a member of  Scotts Hill Baptist Church and Ed Davis’ Sunday School Class. Curry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Teresa Curry, three daughters, three grandchildren, two sisters and two godsons.

The family will receive friends at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel on Sunday, July 31, from 6-8 p.m., with the funeral service scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. at Scotts Hill Baptist Church at 185 Scotts Hill Loop Rd. in Wilmington. Read his obituary here.
