Hot dog chain applies to open in Wrightsville Beach

Must read

A hot dog franchise that originated in Wilmington is applying to open a location in Wrightsville Beach.

Charlie Graingers, a restaurant with locations in downtown Wilmington, Ocean Isle Beach, Panama City Beach, Fla. and Ridgeland, Miss. is applying to open inside Robert’s Market in the space previously occupied by Rita’s Italian Ice. The Wrightsville Beach Planning Board will consider the application at its Aug. 2 meeting.

Charlie Graingers would be slightly larger than Rita’s, requiring 350 square feet of Robert’s Market be converted. Plans show the restaurant occupying about one fourth of the grocery store’s footprint. Proposed outdoor renovations include a small sign and a canvas awning.

The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner and close at 10 p.m., the conditional use permit application states. The applicant calls the restaurant “a family establishment,” stating that no alcohol will be served.

The Wrightsville Beach planning department is in favor of granting Charlie Grainger’s a permit to open, under several conditions such as subjecting the permit to a review if the establishment receives two or more citations for noise violations within a 12-month period and providing adequate parking.
