Dogs allowed back on Wrightsville Beach on Saturday, Bark in the Park at 11 a.m.

Wrightsville Beach will welcome dogs back to the beach strand on Saturday, Oct. 1 as the summertime ban on pets on the beach ends. However, dogs must always be on a leash and owners must carry bags for waste, with a potential $250 fine for  violation, even on first offenses.

It’s part of a weekend devoted to dogs in Wrightsville Beach, as the 2016 Skyhoundz Hyperflite Canine Disc Championships, also known as Bark in the Park, are scheduled  Wrightsville Beach Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The canine athletic competition will test dogs on their ability to catch “Frisbee” style discs in flight. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2.

The dogs won’t be the only athletes in Wrightsville Beach on Saturday morning, as the sold-out Swim the Loop will be contested at Dockside Marina on Saturday at 8 a.m. In addition to the 3.5 mile swim around Harbor Island, the event will also feature a 1.3 mile swim from the Blockade Runner Beach Resort to Dockside.
