New Hanover County, NC – Three New Hanover County high school teams competed in the first round of the state high school playoffs Friday night.
New Hanover High School hosted Raleigh-based Needham Broughton High School at Legion field in round one. The Wildcats easily beat the Broughton Capitals 31-7.
John T. Hoggard High School was on the road for round one traveling to Wake Forest to take on Heritage High School. The Vikings beat the Heritage Huskies 42-13.
Laney High School traveled to Southern Pines for round one to play Pinecrest High School. The Pinecrest Patriots defested the Buccaneers 42-35 ending Laney’s season.
Round 2 of the North Carolina High School Playoffs is scheduled for Friday, November 11. New Hanover will host the Southern Alamance Patriots at Legion Stadium, and Hoggard will travel to New Bern to take on the New Bern Bears.
