Seahawks, Wasps Pair Up in Exhibition

Must read

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s basketball team tunes up for its season opener against top-ranked North Carolina with an exhibition date against NCAA Division II Emory & Henry tonight (Nov. 2, 2022) at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks are making their first public appearance since last year’s stirring run to the College Basketball Invitational championship in Daytona Beach. UNCW closed out Takayo Siddle’s third season with a stellar 27-9 record, including a share of the regular season crown in the Colonial Athletic Association.

“We’re excited to get going and playing in front of our home crowd again,” said Siddle, the CAA’s 2022 Coach of the Year. “It seems like it’s been a long time coming. We’re excited to be able to work on some things leading up to the regular season. It’s another opportunity for us to grow as a unit.”

The 7 p.m. matchup between the Seahawks and Wasps is only the second meeting between the two clubs. UNCW swamped E&H, 122-66, in the inaugural game back on Nov. 26, 2019. The 69 points the Seahawks put up in the second half of the throttling remains a school record.

Siddle added, “We’ve had a very good preseason. We’re right where we need to be. I think we’re a little bit ahead of last year and that’s exactly what I wanted.”

The Seahawks have dominated exhibition games through the years, amassing a 48-6 record in regular season warm-ups.
