Lee sworn in to state Senate

Must read

Michael Lee was sworn in as the next North Carolina Senator representing District 9 during an Aug. 20 ceremony at Thalian Hall council chambers.

N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Bob Hunter administered the oath.

The New Hanover County GOP selected Lee as a replacement for Sen. Thom Goolsby, who announced his resignation Aug. 4. The selection was sent to Gov. Pat McCrory for final approval.

Lee said he is humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve New Hanover County in Raleigh.

“I am excited to represent the great people of this county over the coming months and will fight for the causes that I believe in: protecting the film incentive, reforming our education system, and promoting pro-growth economic policies,” Lee said in a press release.

Lee will fill the rest of Goolsby’s term through January 2015. He will hit the campaign trail this fall in anticipation of the November election, when he faces Democratic challenger Elizabeth Redenbaugh for the District 9 seat.
