Prescription, health discounts available

Must read

New Hanover County residents can get discounts on prescriptions, health care and dental visits through a program administered by the National Association of Counties.

The programs, administered by CVS Caremark, are especially aimed at people without health insurance or those whose insurance doesn’t cover certain medications or procedures. Discounts can be as high as 75 percent, depending on the medication. The prescription card is free and is good at 65,000 pharmacies nationwide, including all the major chains and many independent pharmacies.

Membership in the health and dental discounts program costs as little as $69 a year for an individual. Discounts generally are in the range of 15 percent to 20 percent.

To sign up for the prescription card, go to http://www.nacorx.org and fill out the required information. You can print the card on that site. Information about the health and dental discount program is available at http://www.nacohealth.org.

For more information, contact the county’s Human Resources Department at 798-7178.
