Two deaths in Wilmington overnight

Early morning stabbing

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department responded to 4815 Oriole Drive shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in reference to a reported stabbing. When officers arrived they found several men standing outside of the residence.

The victim was in his late 20’s and was inside the apartment lying face down with multiple stab wounds. Witnesses told officers the stabbing occurred after an altercation at the residence and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. WPD is unable to release the victim’s name at this time until the next of kin have been notified.

WPD has identified a potential person of interest and are continuing the investigation.

Pedestrian killed on Market Street

Christopher Creekmore, a 52-year-old Wilmington man, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle crash around 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8. Witnesses told WPD officers Creekmore walked across Market Street in the 5300 block shortly after 8 p.m. and was struck by an on-coming vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle was 29-year-old Cameron Purser of Hampstead. Purser has not been charged. Witnesses said Creekmore crossed the street in an area not designated for pedestrians and the area was not well lit. Police are continuing their investigation.
