Local authors and plein air painters displayed their work at Wrightsville Beach Museum of History’s holiday open house Sunday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Local author and University of North Carolina Wilmington department of history associate professor Dr. Chris Fonvielle Jr. signed copies of two of his books, “Fort Fisher 1865: The Photographs of T.H. O’Sullivan” and “Faces of Fort Fisher.”
Becky Shuford, another local author, signed copies of her book “Smidgens” as well as a children’s book, “Woody and the Hens,” which she wrote for her grandchildren. Shuford said it was a great Easter book for young kids because it tells the true story of a farm dog that would steal and hide chicken eggs without cracking a single shell.
The story was brought to life with help from 19 oil-painting illustrations by artist Rena MacQueen, who grew up on Summer Rest Road.
In another room, several artists, including Jenny McKinnon Wright, displayed paintings of Wrightsville Beach scenery created during the museum’s plein air event in October.
