Officers with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office’s mounted unit, a new unit that’s mainly used in a ceremonial capacity right now, rode through Wrightsville Beach April 5 during a training exercise. As they passed through Wrightsville Beach Park, children in the town’s Parks and Recreation after school program ran outside to watch. The officers, Lt. Long and Cpl. Gordon, stopped to let the children pet the horses.
