CFCC Women’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball to Compete in NJCAA Division II Championships

Tuesday, November 16 – The Cape Fear Community College Lady Sea Devils soccer season ended this afternoon with a 4 to 0 loss to the Schoolcraft Ocelots (Livonia, Michigan) at the NJCAA championship in Tuscon, Arizona. 

Monday, November 15 – Sea Devils lady soccer falls 6 to 1 to Holmes at the NJCAA championship in Tucson, Arizona in day 1 of pool play.

Wilmington, NC – For the second year in a row Cape Fear Community  College (CFCC) women’s soccer and volleyball programs will compete in the National Junior  College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Championships. Women’s soccer will  travel to Tucson, Arizona where they will face number one seed Holmes Community College today November 14, 2022. Women’s volleyball will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they will face  number two seed Parkland College on November 17, 2022. 

“Winning back-to-back titles and punching our ticket to the National Tournament two years in a  row isn’t easy, but it speaks volumes about the foundation our coaches have built here,” states  Ryan Mantlo, CFCC Athletics Director. “We’re so proud of all of our Volleyball and Women’s  Soccer student-athletes for their achievements and we wish them luck and safe travels moving  into tournament play.” 

Following an outstanding season featuring only one conference loss, the CFCC’s Soccer team  solidified their bid to the National Championships by placing first in the Region 10 Conference  tournament. In addition to an outstanding team performance this season, six Sea Devils were  named to the Region 10 All-Region team (claiming six out of the seven total spots): – Halie Blizzard (Midfielder) 

– Ashley Bowling (Defender) 

– Alissa Campano (Defender) 

– Lauren Laux (Midfielder) 

– Maya McDonald (Forward) 

– Alyssa Wright (Forward) 

CFCC’s Volleyball team finished their season strong with a win over Walters State on Friday,  November 4, 2022, to secure the South Atlantic District B Championship. Several standout  players were named to the Region 10 All-Region Team:

– First Team – Kara Walker (OH) 

– Second Team – Madie Ballou (MB) and Leah Davis (L/DS) 

“I am so proud of the accomplishments of our women’s soccer and volleyball teams, with back to-back regional titles and appearances in their respective national championships,” said CFCC  President, Jim Morton. “I’m also proud of our coaches and athletic staff that have led and  supported these student-athletes to fulfill their goals. Our CFCC family never stops excelling.”
