“Through Our Eyes: Netop the Painting Pooch and Jacqueline Karch”opens Friday, Oct. 24 at the MC Erny Gallery inside WHQR 91.3fm Public Radio studios on the third floor of the Warwick Building at 254 N. Front Street, Wilmington. The opening, planned for 6 – 9 p.m., during Fourth Friday Gallery Night, will include live painting by reclusive canine artist, Netop, a dog, and a reception for his followers. The event represents the first showcase of new work since Netop’s one-dog show in 2006.

Born in January 2003, Netop and his five litter mates were a few weeks old when they were brought to New Hanover County Animal Control. Unable to care for the small puppies they were taken to New Hanover Humane Society where a foster mother was found for the litter.  On April 2, 2003, Netop was adopted by Jacqueline Karch, Bill Keac, and Ruby, a shy two year old Carolina-mix dog.  He was given the name Netop, the Narragansett Indian word for friend.  Karch, an accomplished painter, taught Netop to paint.  He completed his first painting on March 5, 2006 and has been painting ever since.  He uses brushes made especially for him by Bill Keach, which he holds in his mouth.  He has had numerous exhibits and fundraisers, raising money for animal related charities. For more information visit www.netopthedog.com

The exhibit will host a second reception Friday, Nov. 28 also during Fourth Friday Gallery Night. Netop will also painting during this reception. The  exhibit will close Jan. 9, 2015. Regular gallery hours are Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
