The fundraiser for Step Up for Soldiers will have more than two dozen cooks competing. Tickets are $1 per taste cup to sample the barbecue after the judging takes place. Jazz and the Poetry of Langston Hughes

Cape Fear Museum
The Cape Fear Jazz Society will present a jazz listening event with poetry by Langston Hughes. Presenter John Anderson has pulled audio from “The Weary Blues” featuring Hughes’ reading his own poetry. Jazz groups led by Leonard Feather and Charles Mingus will play accompaniment.
