Replica of classic yacht “America” to visit Wrightsville Beach in September

Must read

A replica of the ship that launched the United State’s competitive sailing traditions will stop in Wrightsville Beach in September, where visitors may have an opportunity to tour the classic sailing yacht.

The “America” is a 139-foot yacht built to be a replica of the original yacht of the same name, which defeated British sailing ships in an 1851 competition that served as the foundation for the America’s Cup yacht race.

The vessel, which is on a tour of the East Coast, will be docked at the Carolina Yacht Club from Sept. 25-26. The yacht club told town officials it was working with the Wrightsville Beach Museum to offer the public access to view the boat on Monday, Sept. 26.
